Small Claims Court

The Small Claims Court in Ontario is a branch of the Superior Court of Justice and has jurisdiction only over civil matters – actions in which one party sues another party for some form of private relief, damages or recovery of personal property. There is a limit of $35,000 to the monetary amount that may be claimed.

There are a variety of matters that can be brought before Small Claims Court such as contract disputes, consumer protection, unpaid loan, enforcing orders from LTB, clothes damaged by a dry cleaner, faulty service by construction contractor, personal injury, dog bites, goods and services, employment matters,etc. It can be challenging to understand the deadlines and choosing the right forms/documents while initiating or responding to a claim.
